Whitebeam - Server Side JavaScript.

Whitebeam provides a comprehensive Rapid Development Environment for Web applications based around XML and JavaScript - capitalising on the long history and mature status of the Mozilla SpiderMonkey JavaScript engine.

JavaScript is the accepted, defacto client-side scripting technology. It is supported by all browsers and almost all web designers understand at least the rudiments of the language. There is an army of trained and semi-trained people out there that understand the language. Those same people are under pressure from their customers to add some functionality that can only be done at the server (for example document management, automatic emails, capturing user data etc)

Adding capability to the server requires a system that is cost-effective. To be accepted by medium size businesses skills must be readily available. Motivating the host of cost effective client-side web designers to work on adding server side capabilities is attractive.
